SMAA Football's Bantam Division play began Monday night at Norm Perry Park. In the opener the Sylvan Learning Centre Bears bested the Mammoet Crane Incorporated Mammoths 32-20. Matt Paquette was a dominating player in this game. He returned the opening kick-off 65 yards to stake the Bears to a lead they would never relinquish. Before the half was over Paquette had run 16 yards for another touchdown and big Clay Mackie punched the ball in from the 2 yard line.
A fine 75 yard run by Patrick Miller was the lone score for the Mammoths in the first half as the Bears went to the break leading 18-12. Paquette scored 2 more touchdowns in the second half, the first when he recovered a punt as the on side man and ran it in from the 16 yard line and the other on a 30 yard run. Robert Graham caught a tipped pass and scampered in from 60 yards out for the Mammoths. The Bears prevailed 32-20.
In the nightcap, Keyshaun Jordan scored all 3 majors for the Sarnia Police Association Tiger Sharks as they defeated the Mechanical Contractor's Association Toros 21-7. Dylan Fais added a convert for the Tiger Sharks. Nathan Greaves ploughed into the end zone from 2 yards out for the Toros and Jamie Campbell ran the ball over the goal line for the convert.
