Minor Atom AAA Hockey traveled to Kitchener for Season Opener

September 10, 2012

The Lambton Jr. Sting Minor Atom AAA team traveled to Kitchener on Sunday to take on the Kitchener Jr. Rangers in their first game of their AAA season.

The team struggled early on and had a hard time containing the high flying Jr. Rangers. The Jr. Sting were out shot 10-1 in the first period but some timely saves by starting goaltender, Blake Foster, kept the game to a respectable 2-0 after 1. However, the Rangers came out flying in the second and had a 6-0 lead heading into the third. Foster, once again, made some nice saves in the period while Kitchener out shot Lambton 25-2 through 2 periods.

The Jr Sting’s backup goaltender, Kaden Gray, came in to start the third and Lambton finally seemed to finally find their legs. Even though, they were out shot 17-6 in the period, they were able to finally get on the scoreboard. Defenceman, Nicholas Medeiros, sent a pass up the ice to underage winger, Austin Harper who blew a shot passed the Rangers goaltender with just 1:29 left in the game. Final score 9-1.

The Sting are looking forward to getting in the win column this coming weekend when they visit the Windsor Jr. Spitfires on Saturday and play at home Sunday against the Huron-Perth Lakers.
