S.M.A.A. Football Season Openers

September 10, 2012

S.M.A.A. Football began its regular season on Saturday with 4 games at Norm Perry Park.

In the Atom Division, the Rob Simrak Magic Realty Razor Claws outscored the Lanxess ShockWave 48-24. Five different players scored majors for the victors. Matt Gouviea, Jackson Grasse, and Spencer Villemaire scored two touchdowns apiece with individual majors to Reilly Dumond and Jack Smith. Ava Phillips scampered for three touchdowns for the ShockWave and Jordan Foster added a single.

In the other Atom Division contest, a 35 yard run by Mitchel Schechinger on the second last play of the game gave the Planet Stitch Inferno a hard earned 20-14 victory over the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 Iron Hides. Ethan Barnes had earlier tallied 2 majors for the Inferno. Jaxon Rawcliff and Lucas Kita scored for the IronHides.

In the opening PeeWee Division contest the Force prevailed over the Avengers 13-12. Mitchell Hillsdon scored the only major of the first half, runnning 65 yards for the Avengers after stripping the ball from the Force halfback. The Force came roaring back in the second half on a pair of touchdown runs by Jackson Smiley. A convert by brother Avery on a quarterback sneak was the difference in this nail biter. Teshawn Stevenson scampered 60 yards for the other Avenger major.

In the finale, Cole Morrison was a 1 man wrecking crew, returning the opening kick-off 65 yards and also scoring on runs of 32 and 6 yards as the Storm blanked the Fury 18-0.
