The Springfield Brewers traveled to Alvinston on Thursday night, with the Indians needing one more win to close out the best 3 of 5 series. The Brewers scored 4 runs in the first 3 innings, and while Alvinston clawed back with single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to make it 4-3, they could not create the tying run to tie the game, and Springfield went on to win 4-3. About 100 fans were on hand to enjoy the game, and they took in a great evening of ball, that had a little bit of everything. Todd Winkworth was the winning pitcher for Springfield, while Brad Young suffered the loss for Alvinston. Kyle Crawford came in in relief and allowed only 2 hits in 4 and 2/3 innings of work, to give the Indians a chance to come back in the game.
The Indians are still up 2-1 in the series, and head back to Springfield for game 4, sometime next week. Jamie Shields and Aaron Stocking were both 2/4 in the game for Alvinston, while Simon Rogers was 3/4 with an RBI. The Indians left 10 runners on base, including 7 in scoring position, which ended up being a big difference in the game. Mark McCallum and Jamie Harwood were both 2/4 in the game for Springfield, while Travis Neville was 2/3. Shaun Winship came in in relief of Winkworth for Springfield in the sixth inning with 1 out, and he preserved the win for the Brewers.
