The
Point Edward
Blackhawks hosted
the Strathroy
Rockets to start the
2012 portion of
their season in
Lambton Middlesex
play and blanked the
Rockets 4-0.
The
game started with
play going
end-to-end and
Bailey
Reinders coming up
big early to set the
tone of the game and
keep it at 0-0.
Early in the action,
Young made a
cross-crease pass to
Kennedy who put it
in the top corner to
give the Point a 1-0
lead. The fast pace
continued for a
majority of the
period with the
defense and goalies
working hard to
prevent any goals.
As the period was
coming to an end,
the Point was
controlling the play
in the Rockets end
and Laframboise
passed the puck to
Jackson at the
blue-line who
whistled one pass
the Rockets goalie
to make it 2-0 after
one.
The
Blackhawks continued
the pressure from
the first and made
it count early when
Riddell took a shot
from the Rockets
blue-line that the
Strathroy goalie
could not handle and
made it 3-0.The
remainder of the
second saw the Hawks
and Rockets playing
a more physical game
with each team
getting
opportunities but
both teams defense
held the line.
The
third saw the Point
get into penalty
trouble early with
Strathroy getting a
5-on-3 opportunity
but the Point did an
awesome job killing
the penalty. The
Point continued to
fore-check the
Rockets hard and not
letting them set up
a rush in the third.
As the game came to
an end and the
Rockets were running
out of steam, Best
rushed into the
Strathroy zone,
passing the defense
and jamming the puck
between the goalies
legs to end it 4-0
in favour of the
Point.

In As Many Days, Pt
Edward PeeWee’s Win
their Second
Straight Game
In
their second game in
as many days, the
Point Edward
Blackhawk PeeWee’s
travelled to
Parkhill in
Lambton-Middlesex
league action and
came away with a
convincing 9-2
victory.
The
Point came out a bit
sluggish from their
early morning travel
to Parkhill but as
the game progressed
they slowly got
their legs back.
Midway through the
period and with the
Hawks controlling
the puck in the
Parkhill zone, Young
passed to Jackson at
the blue-line who
let one rip to make
it 1-0. Shortly
thereafter, the
Hawks got called on
a hooking penalty
and it didn’t take
long for Parkhill to
make it count to tie
the game at one. The
Point countered with
their own when Young
brought the puck
into the Parkhill
zone and using the
defense as a screen
put it in the top
corner to regain and
end the period 2-1.
The
second period of
play saw the first
half pretty evenly
matched and neither
team taking control
of the action.
Midway through the
period and with the
face-off in the
Point zone, the
Hawks had trouble
clear the puck from
their zone and
Parkhill managed to
tie it 2-2. This
seemed to be the
turning point of the
game as the Hawks
quickly retaliated
to regain the lead
when Terpstrra
scored with assists
going to Boccanfuso
and Canie. The Point
would get two more
unanswered goals by
Best and Canie
before the period
ended 6-2 in the
Hawks favour.
The
third period was all
Hawks as they scored
three more by Young,
Best and Canie to
end the game 9-2 and
end a successful
weekend with four
points.
