Sting Midget AA's went undefeated in weekend

The
New Year has started well for
Sarnia's Lady Sting Midget AA's
with an undefeated weekend at
the Guelph Thunder Tournament.
The first game of the round
robin was against the home team
Guelph Thunder and Sarnia came
out looking to avenge a loss to
Guelph late in the previous
year. It was not until the 2nd
period before Shauna McPhail
scored with assists to McKayla
Eves and Kassie Roache. Less
than a minute later Sydney Smith
on a pass from Amy Vanden Eynde
scored from the point .
The 3rd period saw Smith score
again from the point with
assists going to Emily
Williams,Marlowe Pecora and the
shut-out to Karley Ferguson.Game
2 of the round robin was 4 to 1
victory over the Haldimand
Rivercats.Scoring for Sarnia
were Jillian Rops and Pecora
with the natural hat trick.
Assists went to Williams, Smith,
Pecora, Roache , Vanden Eynde
{2} with Erica Sullivan getting
the win in net.
The final round robin game
proved to be the closest scoring
with Sarnia winning 2 to1
against the North Halton
Twisters. Once again it was
Smith and Pecora providing the
scoring while helpers went to
Jillian Rops, Sydney Weiss,
Jenna Rops with Ferguson
collecting her 2nd win in net.
The Semi -Finals proved to be
the best game of the weekend as
Sarnia faced off against Saugeen
Maitland.Sarnia stared quickly
scoring in the first 30 seconds
when Williams knocked home a
rebound to start the scoring.
Assist went to Rops and Pecora.
Saugeen answered in the 2nd
period with first of 3 but
Darian Adams replied for Sarnia
less than 15 seconds later on a
pass from Roache. The 2nd period
ended with Sarnia up 3-2 when
Pecora scored from Williams and
Darian Limb. The score remained
the same till with 55 seconds
left Jillian Rops stripped a
Saugeen defender of the puck and
scored a wrap around empty
netter. This proved to be the
winner when Saugeen scored with
less than a second to go.
Goaltender Sullivan was out
standing in net including
stopping a penalty shot early in
the 3 rd period.
In the Championship game Sarnia
once again came out on top
versus the Haldimand Rivercats
with a score of 5-0. Sarnia's
scoring came from Adams, Rops ,
Pecora , and Williams with a
pair, one of which was
shorthanded. Assisting were
Williams {2}, Rops, Pecora and
Vanden Eynde with Ferguson
getting the shut-out. A strong
team effort from Riley Wilhelm,
Amy Rawlings and Emily Donkers
rounded out a great weekend for
the Midget AA's.
