Squires hold on to a 1 point lead to take win

Petrolia,
On; The Petrolia Squires hosted the
Thedford Dirty Dogs in WOAA Senior Men's
Hockey League action Friday night.
Squires came out on top with a final
score of 5 - 4 as time ran out for the
Dirty Dogs.
Petrolia
opened the scoring in the first period
with two back to back power play goals
the first at 2:40 and the second at
10:46. Scott Hull from Mitch
Zavitz and Chris McPhail scored the
first and Chase Clark from Chris McPhail
and Greg Bailey netting the second.
Thedford
came back and scored a pair of goals
late in the game with Daniel Care and
Justin Lightfoot followed less than a
minute later to tie things up heading
into the second.
In the
second the two sides each shared a goal
the first by Petrolia again on the power
play with Ryan Chapman scoring from
Jeremiah Goodacre and Chris McPhail.
With 1:15 remaining Thedford tied the
period with Daniel Care scoring his
second of the night.
Third period
action saw Petrolia take a two goal lead
with James Edgar scoring the first goal
from Scott Hull and Scott McPhail.
Chase Clark scored his second of the
night and what turned out to be the
winning goal assisted by Rob
Vanwynsberghe. Thedford continue
to press and manage to score with :59
seconds remaining but time ran out
giving the Squires their first win in
the new year.
Brad
Holborough earned the win in net for the
Squires with a total of 37 saves.
Dave Ridell took the loss with 32 saves.
The
Squires
are in
5th spot
in the
South
division
and
after 20
games
they are
10-10.
The team
is back
in
action
next
Friday
Jan 13
when
they
host the
Clinton
Radars
at 8:00
pm at
the
Greenwood
Recreation
Centre
in
Petrolia.
