The Point Edward PeeWee Blackhawks started their 2012-13 season with a 4-1 win over the Mt Brydges Cougars(Gold) team in Lambton-Middlesex League action.
Even though the Hawks have only been on the ice since the 1st of October, they came out strong and fast. The season was only a minute long when they hit the “sin-bin” for interference. After killing the penalty, the Hawks hit the score board first when Luciani drove to the net to make it 1-0 mid-way through the period. Both teams ended the period killing another penalties which seemed to minimized their scoring chances.
The second period saw the Cougars get into penalty trouble early and the Point took advantage of it with Waun passing to Burrowes who drove it into the Cougars zone and Lamore put in the loose puck to make it 2-0. The Cougars were able to take advantage of a changing Hawks team to make it 2-1 late in the period.
The third started the same as the second which saw the Cougars take a couple of early penalties and the Point team having some good scoring chances but couldn’t get a break to extend their lead. Midway through the period the Hawks took advantage of a tired Cougars team when Kennedy scored with assists going to Hocking and Canie. The Hawks took advantage of the power play late in the period to extend their lead to 4-1 when Kootstra set up Kennedy and ended their first game in winning fashion.
Archer made some great saves in the third and got the win for the Hawks in net.
