Purdy and Marinaro Placed 1st at Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Zagreb, Croatia

Zagreb, Croatia - Margaret Purdy, 17, of Strathroy and Michael Marinaro, 20, of Sarnia place 1st place today at the Junior Grand Prix Skating competition in Zagreb, Croatia.

The Pair was in 4th spot heading into the free skate.  The couple skated last in today's competition and took first after their performance earning a total of 98.17 points for a combined total of 147.40 pts. 

 

The Pair from China who finished third after the short program placed second earning 95.85 pts in their free skate for a combined total of 146.00 total.  Russia Pair Evgania Tarasova and Vladmir Morozov who were first after the short dropped to fifth place with 137.29 combined total.  Russian skaters also took third, fourth spot.

 

All three Canadian pairs competing in the junior pairs competition placed in the top 10 with Hayleigh Bell & Alistair Sylvester placing sixth and the Krystel Desjardins and Charlie Bilodeau placed ninth.

 

This is the second Junior Grand Prix win for Purdy and Marinaro after finishing 1st at Lake Placid earlier this year.  The pair are coached by  Alison Purkiss and Scott Rachuk of the Competitive Skating Centre of Strathroy.  Michael represents the Point Edward Skating Club and Margaret represents the Watford Skating Club.
