Offense Clicks
in 5-1 Win
Sarnia Sting
Minor Midgets’
offence came
alive in a win
over Brantford
99’s Sunday
evening in
Alliance hockey
league action at
Sarnia arena. In
the first, they
staked
themselves to a
3-1 lead and
added 2 in the
second to
solidify the
win.
Nolan Riley got
Sarnia on the
board with a
power play goal
at 13:39 of the
first assisted
by Jeff Williams
and Callahan
Doughty. Dillon
Saunders quickly
added another at
12:04 assisted
by Kyle Adams
before Brantford
retaliated at
10:28 with their
only goal of the
game by Liam
Riches assisted
by Caleb
Stewart.
Saunders added
his second goal
shortly after
that at 9:13 to
end the scoring
spree in the
first. Kyle
Adams again
assisted on the
goal. Sarnia
outshot The 99’s
9 to 5 in the
frame.
The scoring for
the Sting
continued early
in the second.
Kevin Durco
drove home his
first goal in
league play at
14:21 assisted
by Michael
Pearce. Tyler
Drury worked
hard to help
kill off two
Sting penalties
shortly after
that. Richard
McIntosh helped
put the game out
of reach with
the fifth goal
of the game at
7:05 assisted by
Saunders and
Adams. Dillon
and Kyle had
three points
each on the
night. Mat Szabo
made a great
glove save at
5:24 to prevent
further damage
by Brantford.
The third period
was penalty
filled with no
further scoring.
Sarnia outshot
Brantford 24 to
21 in the game.
It was a solid
game for the
Sting as they
played well as a
team from the
goal to the
defense and the
forwards. As
Coach Smitty
declared early
in the season
when
interviewed, “
When you score
more goals than
the other team,
usually you
win.”
