Sarnia Legionnaires Lost in Shoot Out in Kitchener

KITCHENER – The Sarnia Legionnaires fell 4 - 3 to the Kitchener Dutchmen in a shootout on Sunday.

Dan Rose was not happy with the effort Sunday, “We played well for two-and-a-half periods but we got outworked for five minutes, then took some dumb penalties,” he said. 

After a non scoring first period Sarnia Jason Teschke assisted by Davis Boyer gave the Legionnaires a 1 - 0 lead.  On the power play Zack Tuchlaper scored to give the Legionnaires a 2 - 0.  Tyler Prong and Bobby King assisted on the goal at 15:24.  A power play goal by Keli Grant of Kitchener narrowed the gap at 18:25 and with :21 seconds remaining in the period Teschke scored his second of the night assisted by Jeff King.

In the final period Kitchener closed the gap and scored two early goals to tie that sent he game into overtime.  In Overtime the Legionnaires played short for most of the period due to penalties but were able to kill off the time and allowed no goals. The game then went to shoot out where Kitchener scored twice and Sarnia scored once.  Davis Boyer scored the only Legionnaires goal in the shootout . 

Sean Parker took the loss in net turning away 28 shots.  Jack Moylan earned the win with 30 saves.
Both sides went 1 for 6 in power play opportunities.

The Legionnaires return to action Thursday when they host the Lambton Shores Predators.  Game time 7:10 at the Sarnia Arena.
