The Sarnia Imperials opened
their season at home with
special
guest, CFL Legend and
former Toronto Argonauts Coach
Leo Cahill making the coin
toss.
The
Sarnia Imperials of the National
Football Conference won their
season/home opener 28 - 14
over the Oakville Longhorns
before the home crowd at Norm
Perry Park Saturday night.
In
the first quarter the Longhorns
went up 7 - 0 after quarterback
Robin Medeiros ran 73 yards for
a touchdown and the conversion
was good. In the second
quarter the Imperials drove 56
yards and finished off with
Steve Perry throwing a touchdown
pass to Cory Johnson to tie up
the score 7 - 7.
In
the 3rd quarter on another
Imperials drive Deshawn Hayes
took the handoff and threw to
Matt Goulais in the endzone for
the touchdown. Extra point
kick was good to go up 14 - 7.
Longhorns failed a touchdown
attempt but earned the single
point. With less than six
minutes remaining Alex Pimetal
took a pass from Julian Shadd-Gentry
and extra point was good to
increase the score to 21 - 9.
Longhorns continue to push and
quaterback Medeiros ran again 46
yards for his second touchdown.
Longhorns failed at the extra
point.
The
Imperials added to the score
when Shadd-Gentry ran the ball
69 yards for the touchdown and
the final kick was good giving
the Imperials their first win of
the season.
The
Imperials are back in action as
they travel to the University of
Waterloo on June 2 when they
meet the 2011 NFC Champions Tri
City Outlaws.
