In
2012 the
Enniskillen
Midget team will
have their
opportunity to
play in the U18
Midget I Grand
Championships
and qualify to
attend the 2012
U18 Women’s Fast
Pitch Canadian
Championship in
Montreal August
12-19.
“The
Express
organization is
thrilled to once
again have the
opportunity to
host a PWSA
Grand
Championship.
The very best
Midget aged
fastball teams
in the province
are going to be
in Courtright.
Our girls are
absolutely
thrilled to have
the chance to
play in front of
family and
friends. We are
gearing up for
it and
hopefully, we
will be ready
for the
challenge. I
have heard from
people
throughout the
province and
they are excited
to be coming
back to Lambton
County. Fastball
fans from miles
around came for
the Bantam Grand
Championships we
hosted in 2010.
We still run
into people
today that say
they how much
they enjoyed the
tournament and
were amazed at
the talent level
and speed of the
game.
said Tom
Sinclair,
Express
Representative
and Co-chair of
the 2012 Grand
Championships. “There
will be many
players on
display with
scholarship
deals to schools
in the U.S.
Hosting this
event would not
have been
possible without
the help of Eric
MacKenzie and
his crew of
volunteers. The
big city teams
were amazed at
the Courtright
facility and
level of detail
Eric and his
crew upheld. We
would like to
mention a
special thank
you to
Courtright Minor
Baseball for
working with us
on freeing up
the facility for
the weekend.”
Courtright Park
has 3 excellent
fastball
diamonds that
are maintained
meticulously by
Eric
MacKenzie and
his crew.
Eric is a former
Major League
baseball player
and since his
retirement 20
years ago, has
become one of
the premier
groundskeepers
in the province.
Eric is well
known for his
work on the
world class
baseball diamond
located at the
same park.
“The three-day
event will bring
hundreds of
people into our
community. Many
of the teams
will be staying
at the host
hotel, the
Holiday Inn, as
well as other
local hotels and
campgrounds
throughout
Lambton
County.,” said
Vicky Praill
from Tourism
Sarnia-Lambton.
“It’s been a
pleasure working
with Tom
Sinclair to
bring these
Championships to
Sarnia-Lambton.
We are extremely
excited to
showcase our
community and
invite everyone
to come-out on
July 27-29 to
cheer on our
local
Enniskillen
Express Midget
teams as well as
the other
Ontario teams as
they battle to
qualify for the
Canadians in
Montreal.”
Once again this
year, the host
committee is
looking for
volunteers to
keep score,
announce and
help in the
preparation and
operation of the
Championships.
