Sarnia Jr Sting Major Atom MD Split
series with North London

The Sarnia
Jr. Sting Major Atom MD have a series
split versus the North London Nationals
for the Alliance Hockey of Ontario West
MD Championships with each team winning
one game.
Sarnia lost
game one in London on Tuesday March 27
by a score of 3-1. Stevie Schaefer
played well in net for the Jr. Sting in
spite of the loss and Mat Waun was the
lone goal scorer with the assist going
to Collin Zimmer. Greg Ross was the
coach’s pick for player of the game and
Stevie Schaefer was the parent’s choice.
Game 2 was
played the next night Wednesday March 28
at the Sarnia Arena and the home team
rebounded for a 5-1 win.
North London
would get on the board first just three
minutes into the game but Mat Waun
started the scoring again for the Jr.
Sting at the 6 minute mark of the first
assisted by Cole Goossens.
In the
second period Spencer Baillie would
score an early goal from Cole Goossens
and Nathan Oliphant. Baillie would score
again to close out the middle frame from
Nathan Abbott.
The third
period was a back and forth affair with
both teams getting chances. Cole
Goossens would put Sarnia up by three
goals with 3:21 left in the game from
Kaz Gudelis and Mat Waun. With 1 minute
left in the game and the London net
empty Mat Waun would score again on the
penalty kill as he cleared the puck from
behind the Sarnia blue line and into the
London cage.|
Cameron
Stevens tended net for the Jr. Sting
this game and played an outstanding
game. The coach’s player of the game was
Aiden Clark and the parent’s player of
the game was Spencer Baillie.
Game 3 is
back in London on Friday March 30 at the
Stronach Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
