Alvinston Strong Again on the Road
June 26, 2012

On Tuesday
evening, the
Alvinston
Indians made
the trek to
Springfield
for a
matchup with
the Brewers.
Both teams
sent
effective
veterans to
the mound,
as Alvinston
tossed Brad
Young, while
Springfield
countered
with Todd
Winkworth.
The game was
a tight one
until the
fifth
inning, when
a costly
error turned
the game in
favour of
Alvinston
the rest of
the way.
Alvinston
scored the
first run
when Andy
Triest
singled,
stole second
base, and
scored on an
RBI single
by Brad
Young.
Winkworth
squared
matters for
Springfield
however, in
their half
of the first
inning, when
Winkworth
got
everything
of a pitch,
and hit a
solo
homerun.
Nothing came
to fruition
in the 2nd,
3rd, and 4th
innings for
either team,
but
Alvinston
was back at
it in the
fifth.
A. Triest
got things
going again
with a one
out single.
Chris Drew
was the
second out,
advancing A.
Triest to
second base
on a
perfectly
executed
bunt. That's
when Brad
Young hit a
ball at the
third
baseman,
that would
have ended
the inning,
but the
third
baseman
overthrew
the ball,
and A.
Triest
scored the
go-ahead
run, while
Young
advanced to
third base
on the
miscue. Jeff
Ingram then
followed
with a key
RBI single
to put the
Indians up
3-1. Jeff
Lyons then
reached base
via a walk
to put
runners on
first and
second. Next
up was Simon
Rogers, and
he doubled
down the
line to
score
Ingram.
Aaron
Sotcking
then joined
the hitting
party, as he
clobbered a
triple to
the corner,
scoring both
Lyons and
Rogers, and
giving the
Indians a
big inning,
and a 6-1
lead.
Brad Young
then went to
work,
throwing
three more
scoreless
innings in
the 5th,
6th, and
7th, to
preserve the
6-1 win, and
an
impressive
outing for
Young. Young
earned the
win,
throwing all
seven
innings. He
allowed one
earned run,
on 8 hits,
with one
walk, and 5
strikeouts.
Midget
player Alex
Ritchie made
his debut
for the
Alvinston
Indians,
seeing some
time at
second base,
and getting
his first at
bat in an
Indians
uniform.
A. Triest,
Stocking,
and Ingram
were all 2/4
in the
contest,
while Drew
was 1/2 on
the night,
and Lyons
was 1/3. The
Indians
return home
on Thursday
night to
play the
Morpeth
Magic, at
8:00pm.
Alvinston is
now 10-3 on
the season
in league
play.
