Sarnia Sturgeon Junior Varsity are in 3rd place overall in OFC

The Sarnia Junior Varsity Football Team are 3rd overall in league standings in the Ontario Football Conference. The team improved their stats to 4 - 1 after taking a 23 - 8 win over the Toronto Jr. Argos on Sunday.

 

All points in the game were scored in the first half with with the Sturgeon taking an early 16 - 0 lead in the first quarter.  The first goal was scored after a series of plays that ended on the 3 yard line and was run in for the touch down, kick was good for the extra point.  The second goal was the result of a fumble by the Jr. Argos on the 24 yard line that was taken to the 1 yard line after a penalty flag was dropped on the play.  Sturgeon ran it in and then scored 2 points on a run in conversion. The final point for the Sturgeon was earned after a Jr Argo was tackled in the end zone.

In the second quarter from the 5 yard line a nice little pass was made over the middle and the Sturgeon ran in for the touch down.  The Sturgeon 2 point run in conversion was good.

 

The Jr.Argo only touch down came late in the half after a long pass from the Sturgeon 21 yard line and they ran in for a touch down.  The Jr Argos 2 point run in conversion was good.

 

In the second neither side score giving the Sturgeon the win.

 

The Sturgeon are back in action on July 8 when they host the Chatham-Kent Cougars.  Kick off is set for 7:00 pm at Norm Perry Park.
