With five
starters missing, the Saints
women's team showcased their
depth with a 19-15 win over
the Wilmont Warthogs.
Shelane Stuart scored the
first try of the game for
the Saints, after some hard
fought rucks by the
forwards. Daria Keane hit
the gaps, scoring 2 tries
and Lisa Oleniuk completed
two conversions,
giving the Saints a 19-0
lead before the end of the
first forty minutes.
Wilmont gave the Saints a
run for their money in the
second half, coming back
with an energy and
aggressiveness the Saints
seemed to be lacking. The
Wilmont forwards pushed
through the Saints defense,
scoring twice. The Saints
continued to fight, but the
Warthogs were able to score
one more try, this time from
an intercepted pass and a
long sprint down the pitch.
With 10 minutes left in the
match, the Saints picked up
their game, running the ball
into the Warthogs' end and
keeping it there until the
final whistle.
A well deserved player of
the match was awarded to
Sarah Mimnagh.
