The Sarnia
Midget Braves have been hot of late
winning their last 4 games, and 5 of
their last 6 games.
Last Tuesday in St. Clair Shores, Mich.,
the Braves defeated St. Clair Shores in
the 1st game by a score of
7-4. Tyler Whitbread got the win, with
relief help from Jesse Marks. In the
nightcap, Justin Stephenson pitched 7
strong innings in a game ended by curfew
with the score 2-2.
Thursday night in Wallaceburg, the
Braves swept a doubleheader by scores of
20-0 and 11-0. Pitching was the
dominating factor in both games as Sam
Ellenor allowed just 1 infield base hit
in the 1st game, and Alex
Roger threw a no-hitter ( his pitching
debut for the Braves) in the second
game. Both games were stopped by the
mercy rule.
On Sunday,
at Blackwell Park in Sarnia, the Braves
swept the Detroit Metro Stars 17’s by
scores of 4-0, and 10-9. In the 1st
game, Jake Marks pitched the complete
game victory, allowing only 1 hit and
striking out 9. In the second game,
Dominic Bucci and Sam Ellenor shared in
the comeback victory for Sarnia. At one
point, after some sloppy defense, Sarnia
was down 7-1 in the game before fighting
back to get the win.
Next action
for the Midget Braves is Wednesday June
20th at Blackwell Park, where
Sarnia will take on Coughlin Cubs (
Detroit) in a doubleheader beginning at
6pm.
On a high
note for the Midget Braves, Mitchell
Bigras has been named to the 40 man
roster of Team Ontario. The 15 year old
6’5” left handed pitcher will compete
for a spot on the 17U Ontario team,
which will compete in the Canada Cup –
Canadian Championships – in August, in
London, Ontario.
