Beavers split two games over the weekend

In Ontario Lacrosse Senior B action the Sarnia Beavers were at home this weekend hosting two games.

 

On Saturday the Beavers hosted the Huntsville Hawks and took a 11 - 5 win.  Sarnia scored 4 unanswered goals in the first period with Michael Fleming, Riley Thompson, Tom Quinn and Colin McDowall each scoring. 

 

Huntsville opened the scoring in the second but the Beavers went on and added 4 straight with goals by Colin McDowall, Kevin Fines, Jesse Thompson and Jamie Pillon scoring.  Before the period ended Huntsville added two power play goals to end the period with Sarnia leading 8 - 3.  Scoring in the second for the Hawks were Todd Holinshead, Corey Moore and Phil Montgomery. 

Third period action saw the Beavers add a pair the first by Justin Durston and the second by Jeff Sauve.  Todd Holinshead scored back to back goals goals for the Hawks and in the final minute of the game Jesse Thompson scored the last goal of the game and for the Beavers.

 

Greg Krstic earned the win in net for the Beavers. 

 

Sarnia went 0 for 4 in power plays, Huntsville went 3 for 9.

 

Sunday saw the league leading St. Catharines Saints return to Sarnia for the second time this season. The Saints are 7 - 1 for the season with  Sarnia giving the Saints their only loss in their first game. In the second matchup the Beavers ran into penalty troubles and the Saints overpower the Beavers and took a 13 - 7 win.

 

After the first period of play the Saints led 4 - 2.  In the second the Beavers added 4 goals and the Saints scored 7 goals to lead 11 - 6 after two periods of play.  In the third period the Saints added 2 more to the score board and the Beavers added a single.

 

Scoring for Sarnia were Gord Neely Jr., Brian Quinn, Jeff Sauve, Nick Trudeau, Colin Holbrough, Colin McDowall and Brad Holbrough.

 

Sarnia tallied a total of 71 minutes overall in penalties, St. Catharines totalled 32.

 

The Beavers are now 4 - 4 for the season.  They return to the road on Sunday June 10 to Oakville and back at home on Friday when they host the Owen Sound North Stars.  This game will be played at the Mooretown Sports Complex.
