Sturgeon Bantam's
home opener spoiled by the Oakville Titans

The Sarnia
Sturgeon Bantams hosted the Oakville Titans
in their home opener at
Norm Perry Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Titans
scored the first touch down in the first
quarter for 6 points. The Sturgeon
blocked the extra point kick. Sarnia
took the lead on a reverse and 35 yard run
by Keyshawn Jordan to even the score and
Vincent Ham's kick was good for the extra
point to give Sarnia the 7 - 6 lead.
On the next play
Sarnia's kick return to the Titans was
fumbled and the Sturgeon's recovered on the
Titans 40 yard line. After a series of
play Brendan Shanks ran up the middle for a
touch down. The Sturgeon attempted a
two point run but was brought down. In
the second quarter Sarnia drove the ball
downfield and with less than a yard to go
Cobe Cox ran up the middle for the touch
down. Vincent Ham extra point kicked
was good. The half ended with the
Sturgeon leading 20 - 6.
In the second
half the Titans ran the ball scoring two
touchdowns and making a two point conversion
to tie the game. In the final seconds
the Sturgeon fumbled the ball in the end
zone and the Titans recovered giving them
the touchdown and lead. The extra
point went wide. Time ran out and the
Titans won with a final score of 26 - 20.
The Bantam
Sturgeon are now 0 - 2 for the season.
Next up they travel to Waterloo on Saturday
June 16 to take on
the TC Predators.
In other
Sturgeon action over the weekend the Junior
Varsity made the long trip to Sudbury on
Saturday and defeating the Gladiators 25-14
to bring their record to 3-0. The
Juniors will be in Waterloo next weekend as
well against TC Predators.
On Sunday the Peewee Sturgeon scored their
first victory of the year by drubbing the
Hamilton Panthers in Hamilton 38-0.
Next Sunday June 17 they are back at home
hosting the Oakville Titans. Game time
1:00 pm at Norm Perry Park.
