Lacrosse league action
the Sarnia Beavers lost
a pair of games on the
holiday
weekend.
On Friday
night in St. Catharines
Sarnia took a 14 - 8
loss. St.
Catharines lead 7 - 2 after the first
period and went up 12 -
5 after two periods of
play. Mike Dawson
scored 3 goals for the
Beavers with singles by
Ryan Dark, Chris Davey,
Michael Fleming, Brad Holbrough and Jesse
Thompson.
For St.
Catharines Geoff McNulty
scored 4, Jason Henhawk
scored 3, Andrew Potter
and Dylan Llord each
scored a pair and
singles by Brad
Favero, Dan Elliott and
Chris Janese.
Dan
Walters took the loss in
net for the Beavers.
On
Saturday
the Beavers hosted the Brooklin Merchants for
their final home game of
the season. The
Merchants edged out
Sarnia and took a 12 -
10 win. Sarnia
took an early lead just
:26 seconds into the
game and added another
at 2:15. The
Merchants went on and
scored two back to back
goals seconds apart at
11:02 and 11:52 to tie
then went on to take the
lead late in the period
at 18:48. Just :11
seconds later Sarnia
tied things up and with
:04 seconds remaining in
the period the Merchants
took the 4 - 3 lead
heading into the second.
Scoring for Sarnia in
the first were Jamie
Pillon with 2 goals and
Jeff Sauve added the
single. Mike
Vertoli, Coady Adamson,
Marc Jackson and Jon
Mason scored for the
Merchants.
Brooklin
widened their lead by
three in the second with
Jon Mason scoring 2
goals early in the
second. Jesse
Thompson added a single
goal just over the
midway point in the
period but the Merchants
went on and added
another pair by Dan
Ranson and Scott
Defrancesco.
Sarnia continue to chop
away at the score by
scoring their second of
the period by Brian
Quinn. Merchants
added one more late in
the period with Tyler
Harris scoring and with
:03 seconds remaining
Sarnia added their third
goal by Chris Davey.
The Merchants led 9 - 6
at the end of the
second.
In the
third Sarnia scored
first just early with
Chris Davey scoring.
Dan Ransom and Coady
Adamson add 2 for the
Merchants to go up 11 -
7. Sarnia battled
back and narrowed the
lead by one with 3 goals
by Mikchael Fleming,
Kevin Fines and Jamie
Pillon and in the
attempt to tie Sarnia
pulled their goalie only
to have the Merchants
score into the empty net
and time ran out for the
Beavers.
Goaltender Rick
McCulloch earned the win
for the Merchants,
Greg Krstic took the
loss for the Beavers.
Both teams went
scoreless on powerplay
opportunities.
Sarnia went 0 - 4,
Brooklin went 0 for 6.
The
Beavers are now 5 wins,
9 losses for the season
and return to action
Wednesday as they travel
to Owen Sound and then
on Friday July 6 they
travel to St. Catharines
for their final game of
the season.
