The
Sarnia Imperials traveled to
Waterloo on Saturday and
defeated the Tri-City
Outlaws by a score of 31 -
26.
The Imperials rushed for 122
yards on 29 attempts being
lead by Julian Shadd-Gentry
and DeShawn Hayes. The
passing game was clicking
with Steve Perry going 17
for 29 for 201 yards and
Shadd-Gentry
on a halfback pitch pass
threw to Ryan lounsbury for
an 84 yard TD.
Other Offensive TD's were
lead by Cory Johnson, with 2
in the air and 1 by Deshawn
Hayes from a 3 yard scamper.
Finally Kevin Allear
successfully added all extra
points and a 6 yard field
goal.
On the defensive side of the
ball the Imperials had a
solid pass D going as they
allowed 2 completions on 10
attempts for 10 yards total.
The rush defensive came up a
little soft as they allowed
308 yards on 34 attempts.
Ex-Wilfred Laurier standout
Mike Montoya rushed for 188
yards on 154 attempts
chipping in with 3 TD's.
Shawn Ashe, added the last
TD with a 3 yard run. The
defense was evenly active
with tackles but with big
game deciding implications
Robert Smith had an
interception and so did Norm
Yellowman but none bigger
than Leo Rondon with seconds
left in the game on the
Imperials 20 yard line.
Chad VanBarneveld lead the
team in tackles with 4.5
while playing both ways due
to an injured plagued
imperials team. Jama Njoku
had a close second with 4
tackles.
The Imperials are now tied
for 3rd place with the
Outlaws in the standings
race as both teams have 3
wins and 3 losses.
The Imperials has a week off
to recoup and get ready for
their last regular season
home game when they take on
the Toronto Raiders (2-3) on
Saturday July 21 at Norm
Perry Park. Kick off
7:00 pm.
