Sarnia Jr Sting Minor  Atom MD begin playdowns

February 15, 2012

The Jr. Sting travelled to London to face the first place London Bandits Black in the opening game of playdowns. The most important season of the year, specifically post season has begun. Sarnia heads into the play-offs on a bit of a roll, playing undoubtedly their best hockey of the year.

The Bandits Black have been pretty tough competition all season for the Sting as Sarnia only has a tie in their favor. This night was about to change all the past. All coaches explained to the kids in the dressing room, prior to puck drop, that a new season has commenced and to enter the game with a fresh approach.

Sarnia came to play and stormed into the first period with continuous pressure dominating the Bandits. Sting defender, Kristian Spitzig took the loose puck, going end to end, and in dramatic fashion fired the puck in what looked to be the opening goal. The referee quickly called off the goal stating it never crossed the goal line. This scenario seemed to ignite the kids fury even more and soon after Sarnia forward Cayden Wise, would mimic the Spitzig rush and fire the puck home on a beautiful wrist shot. London would score, late in the period to even it out heading into the second.
The second period opened with both teams searching for the next lead. Some great scoring opportunities arose on both ends of the rink but spectacular goaltending prevailed. Sting goalie, Ian Stouth made some huge saves throughout the game keeping his team focused on their task at hand. Unfortunately, at the nine minute mark of the second, London would score to take a one goal lead into the third.

Sarnia would not give up and continued taking the play to the Bandits. Perseverance is usually rewarded in hockey and this game would show no different. Kristian Spitzig, still frustrated from his denied opening goal, took things into his own hands and with continued determination banged home a loose puck tying the game at two's. The game would end in a draw but Sarnia would achieve great respect in this one. Strong performances were evident by all Sting players. The team is now undefeated in their last three games hoping to continue with success.

Final Score: Sarnia Jr Sting Minor Atoms 2 - London Bandits Black 2.

Next game is this Thursday evening vs. London Bandits Orange @ Germain Arena.
