In
the final game of the regular season, the Point
Edward PeeWee Blackhawks travelled to South Huron
and brought home a 5-0 victory in Lambton-Middlesex
league action.
The Point came out strong and
took control of the play early in the period. The
constant pressure paid off when Jackson shot the
puck from the blueline and Best caught the rebound
off the boards to make it 1-0 with Kennedy helping
out on the play. The Hawks caught South Huron on
their heels when Best took the puck on the next
face-off and caught the goalie going down early and
put it in the top shelf to make it 2-0 within 11
seconds. South Huron was able to regained their
composure and keep it 2-0 after one period of play.
The second period saw the pace of
the game slow down but the Point was able to keep
control of the game. South Huron killed an early
penalty and midway through the period started to get
some scoring chances on the Point. As the period
came to a close the play got a bit more physical and
the Hawks capitalized on a South Huron penalty when
Best got his own rebound to make it 3-0 with an
assist going to Riddell. With seconds left in the
period, Boccanfuso set up Young who beat the goalie
with a backhander to end the period 4-0 for the
Point.
With South Huron still recovering
from two quick goals by the Hawks to end the second,
Smith drove to the net to make it 5-0. The rest of
the period saw the Hawks get into a bit of penalty
trouble which saw them lose a bit of their momentum
but their defense and penalty kill played well to
keep South Huron off the board and help Reinders and
Lindhout get the shut-out.
