The
Sarnia Jr. Sting travelled down the 402
hiway on Wednesday night to face the London
Bandits Orange at Nichols Arena. the boys
were just coming off of a London tournament
in which coaches were very pleased of the
effort put forth.
With
only two league games remaining in the
season, the Sting looked to end the regular
season on a win streak. Opening period
produced exciting action of both ends of the
rink with limited quality scoring
opportunities. The Bandits would open the
scoring , late in the first, on a powerplay.
On a bad angle, the London winger would send
a puck to the net which found its way behind
a screened Sting goalie Ian Stouth.
There
was no scoring in the second period, however
Sarnia began to gain confidence as the game
drew on. They would finally capitalize in
the third period at the 12 minute mark when
Sting winger Chandler Haagsma fired the
perfect wrist shot which found the back of
the twine. Six minutes later, the Jr. Sting
would take the lead when defenseman Kristian
Spitzig made the strong end to end rush and
finished with a hard slapshot which eluded
the Bandit goalie. London would continue to
pressure seeking the equalizer. In the final
two minutes of the game they would tie it up
on a goal mouth scramble, with a London
forward banging in the loose puck.
The game
ended in a 2 - 2 draw, but Sarnia would go
home content with the tie and the strong
effort produced. The Sting are back in
action this Saturday at the Sarnia Arena
facing off with West London with a 1:00 pm
puck drop.
