The Lambton Kent District Youth Soccer
Association wrapped up their season in the U10 Division with two Sarnia
teams competing in the Championship finals. In the Semi's - Sarnia FC
Chelsea defeated Sarnia FC Aresenal and Sarnia FC Milan defeated the Chatham
Attack to both advance to the finals.
On a beautiful night for soccer, the
fields were full of spectators anticipating the opening kick-off. Both teams
were anxious and a little nervous prior to the start. As the game began,
both squads concentrated on defence. Limited scoring opportunities arose on
both sides of the pitch. Stellar goaltending was visible from the two
keepers Andrew Harron (FC Chelsea) and Jack Hutchinson (FC Milan) who kept
offences in check. Chelsea played solid defence led by : Alex Newall, Dean
Palimaka, Christian D'Agostini and Ivan Lange. The half closed out at a 0 -
0 draw.
It is games like these when you realize
that the opening goal will make a huge difference in the strategy on the
field. At the 45th minute of action, the tides would turn. Chelsea would
pressure Milan deep in their end as a loose ball found its way back to
defender Christian D'Agostini, who drove a hard shot on goal which rebounded
to mid-fielder James Brown, who hammered it in for the opening goal. The
goal would send a bolt of energy through the Chelsea offence which never
looked back from that point on! Minutes later, Striker Mateo Troiani would
dribble the ball around the Milan defence and blast it into the top right
hand corner of the goal. With a two goal deficit, Milan was forced to open
up the game and try to press forward. As they began to advance the ball,
Chelsea would counter and often find themselves outnumbering the defence. On
a goalmouth scramble a Milan defender would be called with the "hand ball".
Chelsea forward, Mateo Troiani would be called upon to take the penalty
kick! He did not disappoint as he calmly placed the perfect shot behind the
Milan keeper. Jubilation erupted on the Chelsea bench as the boys knew they
were close to closing the game! With Milan forcing play, all their players
were now concentrating on offence. Chelsea forward, Jimmy Simpson would send
the perfect through ball to an open Mateo Troiani. Troiani would slow things
down and patiently dribble around the defence till he found some open space
firing the ball in, notching the hat trick for the game! That goal would
seal the victory as the final whistle blew ending a great season for Sarnia
FC Chelsea. Awards were presented following the game.

A strong effort from FC Milan making them very worthy opponents as
finalists!
Sarnia FC Chelsea would like to thank
all parents, siblings, relatives and friends who supported the team
throughout the season!!
