Rapid's Rawson Dominates at Aylmer

Kaiden Rawson,
9, of the Sarnia Y Rapids Swim Team picked
up three 1st-place (100M
Individual Medley or IM, 25M butterfly and
25M breaststroke) and two 2nd-place
(25M backstroke and 50M freestyle) finishes
at the last regular season swim meet of the
St. Clair Erie Aquatic League (SEAL) season
in Aylmer on April 1. Ciara Brown, also 9,
earned 1st place in the 25M
butterfly and 50M freestyle, 2nd
place in the 25M breaststroke, 3rd
place in the 25M backstroke and 6th
in the 200M IM. Joining them in the 200M
freestyle relay that won 1st
place in their age group were Mckenna
Jackson and Erin Lacey, also 9. McKenna also
earned 2nd place in the 25M
backstroke, 3rd in the 50M
freestyle and 6th in the 100M IM,
25M butterfly and 25M breaststroke. Erin
came 6th in the 25M backstroke.
Another Rapids
relay team – Abby Allardyce, Samantha Bedard,
Jack Biggar, and Nadine Osmon, all 10 – came
1st in its age category. Abby
added 2nd place in the 50M
breaststroke, 5th in the 100M
freestyle, and 6th in the 100M
IM. Samantha placed 4th in the
100M IM. Jack finished 1st in the
50M backstroke, and 2nd in the
50M butterfly, 50M breaststroke and 100M
freestyle. Nadine came 1st in the
100M freestyle, 2nd in the 50M
backstroke, 3rd in the 50M
butterfly and 4th in the 50M
breaststroke.
In the
7-and-under age category, Taylor Marut, 7,
finished 2nd in the 25M butterfly
and 25M freestyle, and 3rd in the
25M backstroke. Allie Rawson, 6, placed 3rd
in the 25M breaststroke, 4th in
the 25Mbackstroke and 25M freestyle and 5th
in the 25M butterfly.
Among 8- and
9-year-olds, twins Fiona and Hannah Elliott,
8, continue to impress, with Fiona placing 3rd
in the 25M breaststroke and 6th
in the 25M backstroke, and Hannah coming 5th
in the 25M breaststroke. Hayden Scott, also
8, finished 6th in the 100M IM.
Ayrianna Batson, also 8, took more than 11
seconds off her time for the 50M freestyle,
while fellow 8-year-old McKenna Brown shaved
4 seconds off her time for the 25M
breaststroke. In his first competition,
8-year-old Burak Gurtekin had four Top 10
finishes.
Abby Warren, 10,
finished 8th in the 50M
breaststroke and took 10 seconds off her
time in the 100M IM. Ally Core, 11, came 5th
in the 50M breaststroke. Rylynn Haney, also
11, bettered her times in all her individual
events, including an improvement of more
than 18 seconds in the 100M freestyle.
Connor Phipps,
12, placed 3rd in the 100M IM,
and 5th in the 50M butterfly,
100M backstroke and 100M breaststroke. Luke
Young, 13, earned a 2nd place
finish in the 100M breaststroke, 3rd
place in the 50M butterfly, 100M backstroke
and 100M freestyle, and 5th in
the 200M IM. Magaidh Crossland, also 13,
came 5th in the 50M butterfly.
Samantha Lefebvre, 12, earned a 9th
place finish in the 100M freestyle and
improved most of her individual times. Zoe
Little, also 12, came 7th in the
100M breaststroke. In their first meet in
the 12- and 13-year-old age division, Rachel
Dalton improved her times in the 100M IM,
50M butterfly and 100M freestyle, while
Meghan Jackson and Hannah Lacey achieved
four and two Top 10 finishes respectively.

in the 100M breaststroke
The Sarnia Y
Rapids 1 swimmers are coached by Sue
Athanasopoulos, and will finish the year
with Championships in Chatham on April 28
and 29.
