Mooretown Flags Downed Leagues Top Team

The Mooretown Flags were in
Essex on Tuesday night and came
up with a big 3 - 1 win over the
Leagues number one team the
Essex 73's (31-5-1-1).
This was Essex's second loss
before the home crowd with the
first losing to Dresden in shoot
out back in October.
After a scoreless first period
Essex outshot Mooretown 7 - 4.
In the second it was a solid
effort by the Flags as Essex
outshot them 14 - 4 and the two
sides shared single goals with
both goals scored in the first
minute of play.
Essex scored first by Daniel
McIntyre 29 seconds into the
period followed by Mooretown's
Dan Lumley goal at the 56 second
mark.
At 4:29 in the third Sam
McCormack scored on the power
play to give the Flags the lead.
The Flags held on and in the
final minute Essex pulled their
goalie for the extra man but was
denied as Frankie White scored
into the empty net to secure the
win.
Brandon Johnson was outstanding
in net earning the win making 29
saves on 30 shots. Noah
Hedrick suffered the loss making
11 saves on 13 shots.
The Flags scored the only power
play goal on five opportunities
Essex was give two chances and
were denied.
The Flags are now 13-20-3-0 for
29 points with four regular
league games remaining. They are
7 points behind Alvinston
(16-16-2-2) who also has four
games remaining.
Mooretown is back in action when
they host #5 Dresden (18-16-2-1)
on Saturday January 24 with a
puck drop at 7:30 pm.
