Mooretown Flags Take a Bite Out of the Sharks

The Mooretown Flags took another
bite out of the Wheatley Sharks
after taking an
8 - 4 win and the second win in
the home/home series Saturday
night in Wheatley.
Mooretown defeated the Sharks 5
- 2 in their last game at home
on January 3.
After the first period Wheatley
had a 3 - 2 lead but in the
second the Flags unfurled and
blew away the Sharks scoring 5
unanswered goals to take a 7 - 3
lead heading into the third.
In the third period both sides
scored 1 each.
Dan Lumley led in scoring with 2
goals and singles by Caden
Fleming, Justin Vanbuskirk, Sam
Jasmin, Joe DeSena, Brett
Thompson and Ryan Lyle.
Matt Brandon led in assists with
3 for 3 points along with Jasmin
and Thompson who assisted twice
that gave them 3 points in
total.
Shots on goal reported on
Pointstreak shows Mooretown
outshooting Wheatley 45-24, that
would give Brandon Johnson the
win in net for the Flags with 20
saves.
Both sides had five power play
opportunities. Mooretown
scored once on the power play,
Wheatley scored twice.
The Flags are now 11-19-3-0 for
the season and are in 8th spot
in the standings race 12 points
ahead of Wallaceburg (5-25-0-3)
and 8 points behind Alvinston
(15-15-1-2).
Mooretown is back in action next
weekend with two games facing
the 2nd and 3rd place teams. The
first on Friday Jan 16
travelling to Lakeshore
(21-12-0-2) then return
home on Saturday night hosting
2nd place Amherstburg
(22-11-1-1). Game
time 7:30 pm.
