Flags Losing Streak Continues

The Mooretown Flags were downed by the Alvinston Flyers 8 - 3 in Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey league action on Saturday night in Mooretown.

 

In a funny start both teams shared goals in the first minute with Alvinston scoring 32 seconds into the game and the Flags answering back 14 seconds later.  Karsten Berg scored for Alvinston and Ryan Lyle for the Flags.

 



Alvinston regained the lead at 6:07 on a power play with  Zach VanEyk scoring.  Alec Segers tied the period at 13:31 but VanEyk added his second to take the 3 - 2 lead heading into the second period.

 

The power play again gave Alvinston the edge scoring at 6:21 then just over two minutes later the Flyers scored two more goals then at 14:37 Alvinston scored their fourth and second power play goal of the period. 

 

Scoring the four goals in the second period for Alvinston were Kirklin Dorman, Jeremy VanDeven, Joe Archer and Karsten Berg.

 

The Flags finished the period with a power play goal at 17:09 by Brent Blais and the Flyers led 7 - 3 heading into the third.

 

In the final period the Flyers added their fourth power play goal with VanEyk scoring his third of the game.

 

 

The Flags took a total of 67 minutes on 18 infractions that included  four 10 minute misconducts, two for inciting an opponent, one for head contact and another for abusing an official.  Alvinston took 17 minutes on 8 infractions.

 

Alvinston scored four goals on eight power play opportunities, the Flags scored once on three chances.

 

Flags netminder Brandon Johnson suffered the loss after facing 43 shots and making 35 saves.  Cam MacAlpine earned the win making 21 saves on 24 shots.

 

 

With their 8th loss in a row the Flags are now 5-17-2-0 for the season and remain on the bottom in the standings race.

The Flags are back in action tonight (Sunday) in Wheately and back at home next Saturday Dec 13th  when they host the Wallaceburg Lakers who are currently 1 point ahead of the Flags (5-15-0-3) and one game back of the Flags.  (tonight the Lakers face Dresden) 

Next Saturday's the Flags will be also hosting the Mooretown Minor Hockey Association with several pre game and other activities planned throughout the night.

 

Mooretown Minor Hockey Night
 

Prior to the game an All Association Group Photo will be taken. The picture will be displayed in the Arena lobby to commemorate the inaugural season of the minor hockey association becoming known as the Mooretown Jr. Flags and Lady Flags.

All those wearing their jerseys (home or away) are invited to assemble on the ice for a Group photo. The photo will be taken at 6:15 prior to the Jr. C pregame warm-up.

Other Game Night Events Include:

All Mooretown Jr. Flags and Lady Flags players (from Timbit to Juvenile) who wear their team jersey will be granted free admission to the Flags game.

• Tyke House League teams will be scrimmaging between the 1st and 2nd Periods.

• A Chuck-A-Puck contest will take place between the 2nd and 3rd.

• A canned food drive will take place at the game in support of Operation Christmas Tree.
