Flags Went Downhill in the Third

In Great Lakes Jr. C hockey league action the Mooretown Flags suffered a disappointing 10 - 9 overtime loss Wednesday night at home against the Lakeshore Canadiens.

 

After the first period both sides were even at 2-2. In the second period the Flags scored 6 goals and Lakeshore scored 2.

 

Shots on goal after two period of plays was even with 30 apiece.

 

 

Brett Thompson led the Flags with a goal in the first period and a natural hat trick in the second for a total of 4 goals for the night.  Sam Jasmin added 2 goals, one in the first and one in the second and Brent Blais and Ethan Dupont added singles in the second.

 

Luke Sanko scored both goals in the first period for Lakeshores and Michael Long and Brad Carroll score for the Canadiens in the second.

 

With an 8 - 4 lead heading into the third period the downhill slide began.


Lakeshore began their scoring spree in the third starting at 7:51 then at 9:18 both goals scored on power plays by Sebastian Kanally and Dylan Kolic.
 

Then beginning at 14:51 Lakeshore scored 3 goals in just under two minutes and the Canadiens took the lead for the first time.

 

Steven Sartor, Hunter Corp and Nick Tavolieri scored the goals for Lakeshore.

 

The Flags battled back and at 1:01 remaining in regulation time Matt Brandon scored on a power play to tie the game at 9-9. The game went into over time and at  at 3:18 Hunter Corp scored the winning goal for Lakeshore.

 

Lakeshore out shot the Flags 25 - 14 combined in the 3rd and OT and a game total of 55 - 44.

 

 

Riley Collins went the distance making 45 saves.  Colin Tetreault got the start for Lakeshore making 18 saves on 25 shots then later replace John Jeffries who earned the win making 17 saves on 19 shots.

 

In total Mooretown score four power play goals on seven opportunities, Lakeshore score two on six opportunities.

 

The Flags are back in action on Saturday December 6th when they host Alvinston at 7:30 at the Mooretown Recreation Centre.

MOORETOWN NOTES:

  • Brett Thompson and team scoring leader Sam Jasmin each tallied 5 points with 4 goals and 1 assist for Thompson giving him a season total of 20 point and Jasmin earned 2 goals and 3 assists for a season total of 26 points..  Dan Lumley assisted on 4 goals earning 4 points and Frankie White added 3 points on assists.
