Mooretown Flags Send Wallaceburg to the Basement
Sunday December 7, 2014

It's been a battle all season for the Flags but after defeating the Wallaceburg Lakers 5-4 in a feisty affair Saturday night they moved up in the standings by one point.

In the first period the Lakers scored first on a power play goal by Matt Clark.  Two quick goals by the Flags at 13:31 by Ryan Lyle and at 13:42 by Caden Fleming gave the Flags the lead.  However another power play goal for the Lakers by Jeff Brown tied the game that held heading into the second.

Second period Mooretown scored two power play goals the first at 1:06 by Sam Jasmin and the second at 11:37 by Frankie White.  Action continued and the period ended with Mooretown leading by 2.

Wallaceburg narrowed the gap early in the third on a goal scored by Brendan Ritchie.  Joe DeSena playing in his second game for the Flags scored his first goal to give the Flags the two goal lead.

The game turned nasty when a fight broke out and after it was over one Mooretown player was sent to the dressing room and two Lakers players were ejected.  In the final minute of play the Lakers pulled the goalie for the extra attacker and at 19:45 Matt Clark scored his second of the night and the Lakers trailed by one.  With the extra man still on the ice the Flags held on and took the win.

Wallaceburg outshot the Flags 39-38.  Brandon Johnson earned the win making 35 saves, Joel Sowinski made 33.

Both sides scored two power play goals.  Mooretown had a total of five opportunities, Wallaceburg had six.

With the win the Flags are now 6-18-2-0 for a total of 14 points just one point ahead of Wallaceburg who's record is 5-18-0-3.

Next up it will be another battle between these two teams as Mooretown heads to Wallaceburg on Wednesday night.
