Mooretown Flags Sank the Admirals

Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey League
The Mooretown Flags traveled to
Amherstburg Sunday night and
took a solid 8 - 3 win over the
second place Admirals
(25-12-2-1) in Great Lakes
Jr. C Hockey league action.
Brett Thompson surprised the
Admirals with an unassisted goal
just 51 seconds into the game.
Sam McCormack from Thompson and
Dan Lumley added the second goal
at 12:49 and just under a minute
later Amherstburg Mark Gangnon
narrowed the gap and the period
ended with the Flags leading 2 -
1.
Like the first period Thompson
started the second in the same
way taking Amherstburg by
surprise only this time he
scored 22 seconds into the
period with help from Frankie
White and Dan Lumley. Dan
Hachey added the 4th goal at
6:41 with Alec Segers and Justin
Vanbuskirk assisting and
Vanbuskirk gave the Flags a 5 -
1 lead at 11:21 with goaltender
Steven Taylor earning the
assist.
Amherstburg Ryan Holzel manage
to beat Taylor at 16:34 but less
than a minute later at 17:30 Dan
Lumley scored to make it 6 - 2
heading into the third.
Austin Hewton assisted on
Lumley's goal.
Starting the third period on a
power play again the Flags were
able to score in the first
minute with Lumley scoring
assisted by Matt Brandon.
The duo added another goal
midway into the period and the
final goal of the game came at
14:12 by Blake Rutckyj of
Amherstburg.
Captain Dan Lumley and team
scoring leader (17-28) tallied 5
points in the game with 2 goals
and 3 assists. Brett
Thompson earned 3 points with 2
goals and an assist.
Steven Taylor playing in his
second game with the Flags
earned the win in net making 30
saves. Arren Romeril and
Gianfranco Donato shared the
loss for a combined total of 28
saves.
The Flags shut down the Admirals
killing off six power play
opportunities. The Flags
scored one on four
opportunities.
The Flags have two games
remaining before playoffs.
The first is in Blenheim on
Friday Jan 30 at 7:15 pm and
then return home the following
night on Saturday against
Alvinston with a puck drop at
7:30 pm.
