Mooretown Lost Season Opener

The Mooretown Flags travelled to Dresden on Friday night for their season opener in Great Lakes Junior C Hockey league and came away with a 3 - 2 loss.

Both sides went scoreless after the first period of play.  A minute and nine seconds into the second Dresden scored the first and only goal in the period with Taylor Sisson scoring.

Third period action saw Dresden add two more goals at 10:15 and 13:55.  The Flags continue to battle back and at 16:43 Brett Thompson recorded the first Mooretown goal of the season and game for the Flags assisted by Jeff Schroeter and Sam Jasmin.  As the game was nearing the end Spencer Bronzi narrowed the gap at 18:23 assisted by Dan Lumley but time ran out giving Dresden their home opener win.

 Mooretown outshot Dresden 58 - 44.  Netminder Brandon Johnson took the loss with 41 saves and Brent Paxton earned the win with 56 saves.

Both sides were scoreless on the power play.  Mooretown had eight opportunities Dresden had five.

The Flags are back in action tonight (Sat Sept 14) for their home opener against Wallaceburg.  Game time 7:30 at the Moore Sports complex.
