Mooretown Flags Win in OT Over Wheatley

On Wednesday night the Mooretown Flags defeated the Wheatley Sharks in over time with a final score of 4 - 3 in Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey action in Mooretown.

Wheatley went up 2 - 0 after the first period.  Thomas Virban and Sebastian Kanally scored for Wheatley in the first.

In the  second the Flags battled back and scored twice to even the score with the first goal being scored just :36 seconds into the period by Dan Lumley assisted by Brett Thompson and Brandon Layman.  Jeff Schroeter tied things up at 11:33 with Sam McCormack and Sam Jasmin assisting. Wheatley's only power play goal was scored by Bret Babkirk at 16:53 to give the Sharks the 3 - 2 lead heading into the third.

In the third period Matt Brandon scored for the Flags at 13:01 to even the score with Dan Lumley and Brandon Layman assisting.  Regulation time ran out and both sides were even sending the game into overtime.

In over time at 3:06 Brett Thompson scored the game winner assisted by Jeff Schroeter.

Wheatley outshot Mooretown 43 - 31.  Brandon Johnson earned the overtime win in net with a total of 40 saves.  Everitt Omstead made 27 saves in net for the Sharks.

Wheatley went one for three on power play opportunities.  Mooretown had zero chances on power plays.

The Flags are now 3 - 3 - 1 for the season.  Next up the Flags travel down river to take on league rivals the Wallaceburg Lakers.  The game will be played at the Walpole Arena with a 7:30 puck drop.
