Mooretown Flags Win in Shoot Out

It
was an exciting finish between Mooretown and
Blenheim Blades that was decided in shootout that
gave the Flags the 5 - 4 win in the Great Lakes Jr.
C Hockey League game.
Mooretown took a 3 - 1 lead after the
first period. Brett Thompson scored the first
goal at 8:36 for the Flags assisted by Brandon
Layman and Sam McCormack. Blenheim's
Brayden Seliga answered back to even the score at
11:03. Jeff Schroeter regained the lead at
14:43 with Macgregor Haddon and Sam Jasmin assisting
and :38 seconds later Adam Hayes widen the lead with
the final goal of the period. Dan Lumley from
Brandon Layman earned assists on the third goal.
In the second a period the only goal
in the period was scored by Kirk McKillop on a power
play for Blenheim that narrow the gap to 3 - 2
heading into the third. Third period action
saw Blenheim tie things up at 11:52 by Justin
Rossignol, then at 15:07 Derek Muzzatti gave the
Blades the lead for the first time in the game.
As the game was widing down Mooretown pull their
goal for the extra attacker and at 19:48 Brett
Thompson scored into the empty net to even the
score. Dan Lumley and Jeff Schroeter earned
assists on the play. Score remain tied at 4 -
4 after three periods of play sending the game into
overtime.
Overtime didn't solve the outcome
sending the game into a shootout where the Flags
outshot the Blades 2 goals to 1. Drew Marlatt scored
the only goal for the Blades. Jeff Schroeter
scored the first goal for Mooretown and Dan Lumley
scored the winning goal for the win.
Mooretown went zero for two on power
play opportunities, Blenheim went one on four.
Blenheim outshot the Flags 36 - 35.
Steven TAylor earned the win in net for the Flags
stopping 32 shots. Eric Stewardson took the
loss made 30 saves.
Mooretown jumped to 5th places in the standings race
with a record of 11-9-1-1 just one point behind
Blenheim. It's still a tight race as Belle
River is in third with 26 points followed by
Blenheim with 25, Mooretown 24, Alvinston and
Amherstburg each have 23 points.
The Flags are back in action Monday
Dec 2 when they travel to Wheatley. The second
place team has a bone to pick after the Flags
defeated them 9 - 2 last time they met in Mooretown
on November 23.
Next home game is Saturday Dec 7 at
7:30.
