Mooretown Flags Come up Short Against the Jr. Kings

The Mooretown Flags traveled to Dresden Friday night and came up short in a solid game against the Jr. Kings in the 4 - 2 loss in Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey.

 

After a scoreless first period the two sides headed to the dressing room at the end of the second period tied at 2 - 2.

Macgregor Haddon scored the first goal giving the Flags the lead at 3:21.  David Addley and Jeff Schroeter earned the assist.  Four minutes later the Jr. Kings came back and scored by Dillon Liberty.  Late in the period at 18:56 Caden Fleming scored on the power play assisted by Dan Lumley and Matt Brandon, but Dresden came right back and evened the score :12 seconds later and the period ended with the two sides even.

 

In the third period Dresden took the lead for the first time half way into the period when Jeff Vanrabaeys scored an unassisted power play goal.  In the final minute of game the Flags pulled their goalie for the extra man but the Jr. Kings was able to secure the win with an empty net goal scored by Derek Daly.

Dresden outshot the Flags 31 - 25.  Flags Brandon Johnson suffered the loss in net making 27 saves.  Brent Paxton earned the win with 23 saves.

 

Mooretown took eight minutes in penalties on four infractions.  Dresden took ten minutes on five infractions.

 

Mooretown scored once on four power play opportunities, Dresden score a single on three chances.

 

The Flags are now 10-9-1-1 for 22 points and are sitting in 7th place in a tight standings race.  Ahead of the Flags are Blenheim (11-7-1-1) 4th with 24 points, Alvinston (11-10-0-1) 5th with 23 and Alvinston 6th (11-10-0-1) with 23 points.

 

Mooretown is back in action tonight (Sat Nov 30) when they host Blenheim at 7:30 at the Moore Recreation Centre.
