Mooretown Flags Downed by Belle River

This was the fifth game between the
two Great Lakes Jr. C hockey teams and Belle River
took the series 3 - 2 after the Flags lost 4 - 2
Wednesday night in Mooretown.
Belle River opened the scoring at
10:59 in the first period after scoring their first
goal short handed by Braden Laroque. Dan
Lumley evened the score less than two minutes later
on the power play with Jeff Schroeter assisting.
In the second period the Canadiens
scored three unanswered goals to take a 4 - 1 lead.
The first two goals were scored on the power play.
Kody Gagnon scored the first power play goal just
:18 seconds into the period. Brad Carroll
scored the second at 8:30 and the final goal of the
period by Zack Bedard at 14:28.
In a come from behind situation the
Flags only goal came at 4:31 on a power play scored
by Sam McCormack from Dan Lumley.
Belle River tallied 20 minutes in
penalties on eleven infractions. Mooretown
suffered 14 minutes on eight infractions.
Mooretown went two on six power play
opportunities, Belle River went two on four.
Belle River outshot Mooretown 35-25.
Brandon Johnson took the loss with 31 saves.
Mitch Topliffe made 23 saves in the win.
The Flags remain in sixth place in
the standings race with a record of 16-14-1-1.
The Flags are on the road for their
next three games. The first in Alvinston on
Saturday January 11 at 8:00 pm. On
Wednesday Jan 15 they are in Wallaceburg and Friday
January 17 in Dresden. The final two games
start at 7:30pm. The Flags return home on
Saturday January 18th when they host the Blenheim
Blades.
