The Mooretown Flags were facing elimination after being down 3 games in the best of seven Great Lakes Jr. C playoff series against Blenheim but kept the series alive after defeating the Blades 6 - 3 before a huge crowd in Mooretown.

"Thought it was a good game." Head Coach Jordan Pennesi said "It was a fast pace game with a lot of chances at both ends."

The Flags took a 2 - 0 lead in the first period with Caden Fleming from Spencer Bronzi scoring the first goal at 5:31 and Brett Thompson scoring on the power play at 12:04 with Bronzie and Sam McCormack assisting,

The Flags took a five minute major penalty which was costly as the Blades went on and scored two power play goals on the penalty, the first at 15:52 and at 19:28 and the period ended with both sides tied with 2 apiece.  Drew Marlatt and Justin Rossignol each scored for the Blades on the power play.

Early in the second at 1:28 Blenhein added goal number three with Rossignol scoring his second of the game and giving Blenheim the lead.  At 2:49  netminder Eric Stewardson mishandled the puck and put it in his own net that tied the game.  Spencer Bronzi was credited with the goal with Sam Jasmin getting the assist.  Action continued and the score remain tied at 3 - 3 heading into the third.

In the third period Mooretown regained the lead at 6:55 after defenceman David Addley rushed in took the shot and Ryan Lyle picked up the rebound and found the opening to put the Flags up 4 - 3.

Action continued and as the game was approaching the end Blenheim pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Spencer Bronzi intercepted a pass and skated into Blenheims end and scored into the empty net.  With seconds remaining Blenheim net remained empty and the Flags once again score their second empty net goal by Austin Ainsworth with Sam Jasmin assisting and time ran out giving the Flags their first win of the series.

"I thought five on five we controlled the play most the part." Pennesi said  "The last five minutes or so they were kind of all over us but I thought we did a good job putting the puck in the net tonight. Two empty netters but more pucks on the net was definitely a big thing."

Blenheim outshot the Flags 45 - 35.  Outstanding goaltending at both ends of the rink.  Flags netminder Brandon Johnson made 42 saves in the win. Eric Stewardson made 29 saves for the Blades.

Mooretown scored one power play goals on five opportunities.  Blenheim had only one power play opportunity on the five minute major and scored twice.

Blenheim leads the series 3 - 1 and the two teams are back in action for game five tonight in Blenheim at 7:30pm.

"I told them to take it at one game at a time don't think of it as a huge impossible comeback it's a 60 minute game and anything can happen." Pennesi said "If we come out and work hard and keep playing the way we have been we will be rewarded as we were tonight."
