Mooretown Flags Defeat Wheatley

The
Flags come up big again after defeating the 2nd
place Wheatley Sharks (14-8-1-0) twice in a
row with the second win in front of the Wheatley
fans in a close 2 - 1 final in Great Lakes Jr. C
League action.
(The first win was back on Nov 23
when they downed the Sharks 9 - 2)
In a solid game on Monday night
Wheatley scored first late in the first period on a
power play scored by Jon Woelk at 19:20.
The Flags scored the lone goal in the
second on a power play and tied things up.Macgregor
Haddon scored his ninth goal of the season with Dan
Lumley and Jeff Schroeter earning the assist.
Solid play continued and midway at
10:49 Dan Hachey scored his first of the season and
what turned out to be the winning goal for the Flags
as they held on closing the game with the lead.
Lumley earned his second assist on the goal.
Wheatley outshot the Flags 29 - 24.
Netminder Brandon Johnson earned the win for the
Flags making 28 saves. Everitt Omstead took
the loss made 22 saves.
Both sides went one for five on power
play opportunities.
Mooretown has moved into 4th spot in
a tight standings race with 26 points. (12-9-1-1).
The Flags are two points behind Belle River (Belle
River has 3 games in hand). Battling for
higher rankings are Amherstburg and Blenheim each
with 25 points and Alvinston 23.
The Flags are back in action with two games on the
upcoming weekend. On Saturday (Dec 7) the
Flags host the league leading Essex 73's (20-2-1-1)
at 7:30 pm at the Moore Sports Complex. On
Sunday the team will travel to Blenheim for a 7:15
pm start.
