Big Win for Mooretown Flags After Defeating League Leading Belle River

Mooreetown - After the loss on Friday night against Dresden the Flags bounced back to take a huge 5 - 3 win over  the league leading (11-2-1) Belle River Canadiens before the home crowd in Great Lakes Junior C Hockey action.

 

After the first period Belle River lead 2 - 1.  The Canadiens opened the scoring at 4:14.  Mooretown answered bck at 12:22 with McGregor Haddon scorring assisted by Dan Lumley and Mike Burns.  Belle River regained the lead in the last minute of play in the first.  Chris DiNatale  and Weston Gaul each scored for Belle River in the first.

 

In the second period Belle River widened their lead to 3 - 1 by scoring the only goal in the period by Guy Levesque.  Third period it was all Mooretown. Mike Burns started the scoring just :29 seconds with an unassisted goal. At 5:44 Burns scored the tying goal with Jordan McBeath and Jeff Schroeter assisting.  The only power play goal of the game and what turned out to be the game winner was scored by Riley Roberts to give the Flags the lead 4 - 3 lead.  And the celebrations began after Belle River pulled their goal for the extra man attacker and Dan Lumley scored into the empty net to secure the win. Jeff Schroeter contributed on the final Flags goal.

 

The Flags' penalty kill was perfect, allowing no goals on 11 Belle River power plays. Mooretown accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game. Belle River allowed 1 goal on 6 Mooretown power plays taking a total of 36 minutes in penalties.

 

Brandon Johnson earned the win in net for the Flags turning away 21 shots.  Belle River  net minder Zakk Olvin took the loss with 23 saves.

 

The Flags are back in action on Saturday November 3 when they host the Dresden Kings at the Moore Sports Complex at 7:30 pm.
