Belle River, On;-The Mooretown Flags season came to a halt on Tuesday night as they were downed 3 - 2 by the Belle River Canadiens in game five in the Great Lakes Jr C quarter final playoff round.

"It was a good game.  I thought we played good we just didn't bury our chances again." Head Coach Jordan Pennesi said.

Mooretown scored in the first period at 5:45 with Caden Fleming leading things off assisted by Frankie White and Alec Rutherford.

"I thought early in the first period we could have opened the game up but their goalie [Zakk Olvin] made a couple of good saves to keep them in it." Pennesi said

In the second period the Flags ran into some penalty difficulties and had to battle off power plays.

Belle River scored three unanswered goals in the second to take the 3 - 1 lead.  Scoring for Belle River were Donnovan Plummer at 12:11, Mark Manchurek at 13:13 and Chris DiNatale at 19:31.

Mooretown fought back and at 16:47 into the third Jeff Schroeter narrowed the gap assisted by Riley Roberts and Ryan Jennings.
The clock ran down and Belle River held on to take the win to move on to the semi final round.

Mooretown outshot Belle River 25 - 22. Netminder Brandon Johnson who was outstanding in the series took the loss.  Zakk Olvin earned the win.

Both sides went scoreless on the power play.  Mooretown had four opportunities, Belle River had eight.

"This is the end of the road for this year,  I thought we had a pretty good year as we are young team, lots of stuff to learn but there definitely some positive that came out of it." Pennesi said  "I'm looking forward to next year with the young players coming back and working with them."
