Season is Over after loss in
Belle River

Belle River, On;-The
Mooretown Flags season came to a halt on Tuesday
night as they were downed 3 - 2 by the Belle River
Canadiens in game five in the Great Lakes Jr C
quarter final playoff round.
"It was a good game.
I thought we played good we just didn't bury our
chances again." Head Coach Jordan Pennesi said.
Mooretown scored in
the first period at 5:45 with Caden Fleming leading
things off assisted by Frankie White and Alec
Rutherford.
"I thought
early in the first period we could have opened the
game up but their goalie [Zakk Olvin] made a couple
of good saves to keep them in it." Pennesi said
In the second period
the Flags ran into some penalty difficulties and had
to battle off power plays.
Belle River scored
three unanswered goals in the second to take the 3 -
1 lead. Scoring for Belle River were Donnovan
Plummer at 12:11, Mark Manchurek at 13:13 and Chris
DiNatale at 19:31.
Mooretown fought back
and at 16:47 into the third Jeff Schroeter narrowed
the gap assisted by Riley Roberts and Ryan Jennings.
The clock ran down and Belle River held on to take
the win to move on to the semi final round.
Mooretown outshot
Belle River 25 - 22. Netminder Brandon Johnson who
was outstanding in the series took the loss.
Zakk Olvin earned the win.
Both sides went
scoreless on the power play. Mooretown had
four opportunities, Belle River had eight.
"This is the end of
the road for this year, I thought we had a
pretty good year as we are young team, lots of stuff
to learn but there definitely some positive that
came out of it." Pennesi said "I'm looking
forward to next year with the young players coming
back and working with them."
