Essex, On - One would say it was a close game until the third period when the Flags ran into penalty trouble and gave up three power play goals in the 6 - 2 loss against the league leading Essex 73's.
Rookie Riley Roberts
scored his 11th goal of the season to give the Flags
a 1 - 0 lead in the first period. Andrew Sokol
and Ryan Jennings contributed to the goal. In
the second period Essex scored 3 goals at 3:59, 9:25
and 10:19 with Jordan Brohman, Adam Dunnmore and
Matthew Herbert scoring. At 13:35 Mooretown
narrowed the gap after Caden Fleming scored from
Alec Rutherford and McGregor Haddon. Action
continued and the second period ended with Essex
leading 3 - 2.
In the third the
Flags were unable to stop Essex power play and goals
were scored by Aaron Thiebert, Ryan Muzzin and
Kevin Boggs.
Mooretown tallied 37
minutes in penalty minutes on 15 infractions.
Essex took a total of 27 minutes on 13 infractions.
Essex outshot the
Flags 44 - 21
Despite the loss Brandon Johnson was outstanding in
net with a total of 38 saves. Trevor Wheaton
was the winning goalie with only 19 saves.
The Flags are now 10 -
10 - 4 - 1 for the season and once again share 5th
spot with Wheatley with a total of 25 points.
Next up the Flags have
another big game when they host second place Belle
River Canadiens on Saturday December 8.
This is the 4th meeting between the two teams and
Belle River leads the series 2 - 1. Game time is set
for 7:30 at the Moore Sports Complex.
