The Mooretown Flags
dropped to seventh spot in Great Lakes Jr C Hockey
League standings race after losing 6 - 2 to the
Alvinston Flyers Saturday night before 210 hockey
fans in Mooretown.
The Flyers opened the
scoring at 3:39 in the first period on a goal scored
by Karsten Berg. Riley Roberts scored his 14th
goal of the season and put the Flags on the
scoreboard at 5:33. Jeff Schroeter assisted on
the goal. Chad Vaneyk gave Alvinston a 2 - 1
lead heading into the second period at 17:30.
Second period saw
Alvinston widen their lead by two after the Flyers
scored two unanswered goals. Dylan Lightfood
scored at 10:49 and Cody Perriam scored at
12:00 shorthanded.
In the third period
Travis Mullen scored with just :23 seconds off the
clock to give Mooretown their second goal and
narrowed the gap. Schroeter and Caden Fleming
assisted on the goal. However the Flyers went on and
scored two more goal at 5:53 and 8:46 and held on to
take the win. Karsten Berg scored his second
of the night and the final goal for Alvinston was
scored by Josh Moore.
"We played ok but I
thought they wanted it a little bit more than we
did." said Head Coach Jordan Pennesi. "I thought all
the loose pucks they were first man there and our D
zone got run around too much and gave them too much
opportunity to score."
Mooretown and
Alvinston were even with a total of 32 shots on
goal. Brandon Johnson took the loss in net and
Brad Jacklin earned the win.
Both sides went
scoreless on the power play. Mooretown had two
opportunities, Alvinston had six.
The Flags are now one
point behind and two games back behind the Dresden
Kings.
"Our D Zone coverage
is something that we got to work on for the rest of
the year and if we can do that well I think we
should do good for the rest of the season." said
Penessi
The Flags are off
until December 30 when they travel to face third
place Blenheim Blades.
