andrew Brethauer November 25th, 2011

Alvinston, ON – The Alvinston Flyers snapped their three game losing streaks Friday night against the Mooretown Flags with a 7-6 victory in a shootout.

Mooretown started the game scoring first as Jeff Schroeter made it 1-0 for the Flags. But with under two minutes left to play in the period, the Flags would not be able to escape with the lead or tie, as Chris Edwards would make it 1-1, and Clint Rose would put the Flyers ahead 36 seconds later, as Alvinston lead 2-1 after the first.

In the Second, Alvinston would score quickly again, this time on the powerplay as Dylan Lightfoot would give the Flyers their third straight goal. Edwards would make it four in a row, picking u his second of the game for a 4-1 Alvinston lead.

But Mooretown would come storming right back, as Spencer Bronzi would pick up two goals in the period, and Michael Gray would pick up a powerplay goal, as the Flags tie the game back up 4-4 heading into the third period.

In the third, Alvinston would retake their two goal lead, as Ryan Zavitz would score, and Chris Edwards would pick up his hat-trick with a shorthanded goal. But the Flags again would come back as Kurtis Glowa would score on the powerplay, and McGregor Haddon would score with just over two minutes remaining. Overtime would solve nothing so a shootout would be needed.

In the shootout, the first three shooters for each team would score, and Dan Warner would add the fourth goal for the Flyers. Glowa would be stopped by James Morreau, as Alvinston picks up the 7-6 victory.

Morreau made 40 saves in the victory, while Andrew Ganter made 42 saves in the loss.

Mooretown is home Saturday night and will take on Wheatley.
