Alvinston, ON – The Alvinston Flyers snapped
their three game losing streaks Friday night
against the Mooretown Flags with a 7-6 victory
in a shootout.
Mooretown started the game scoring first as Jeff
Schroeter made it 1-0 for the Flags. But with
under two minutes left to play in the period,
the Flags would not be able to escape with the
lead or tie, as Chris Edwards would make it 1-1,
and Clint Rose would put the Flyers ahead 36
seconds later, as Alvinston lead 2-1 after the
first.
In the
Second, Alvinston would score quickly again,
this time on the powerplay as Dylan Lightfoot
would give the Flyers their third straight goal.
Edwards would make it four in a row, picking u
his second of the game for a 4-1 Alvinston lead.
But
Mooretown would come storming right back, as
Spencer Bronzi would pick up two goals in the
period, and Michael Gray would pick up a
powerplay goal, as the Flags tie the game back
up 4-4 heading into the third period.
In the
third, Alvinston would retake their two goal
lead, as Ryan Zavitz would score, and Chris
Edwards would pick up his hat-trick with a
shorthanded goal. But the Flags again would come
back as Kurtis Glowa would score on the
powerplay, and McGregor Haddon would score with
just over two minutes remaining. Overtime would
solve nothing so a shootout would be needed.
In the
shootout, the first three shooters for each team
would score, and Dan Warner would add the fourth
goal for the Flyers. Glowa would be stopped by
James Morreau, as Alvinston picks up the 7-6
victory.
Morreau made 40 saves in the victory, while
Andrew Ganter made 42 saves in the loss.
Mooretown is home Saturday night and will take
on Wheatley.
