Wallaceburg, ON – With four goals in the third
period, the Mooretown Flags erased a 3-1 deficit
to start the new year with a victory, as the
Flags defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers 5-3
Wednesday night in junior c hockey in
Wallaceburg.
Wallaceburg still held the lead deep into the
third period until the Flags scored twice in 18
seconds to take their first lead of the game.
Jeff Schroeter scored his second of the game
followed by Mike Burns eventual game winning
goal with less then three minutes remaining in
the period. Aaron Schieman would pick up three
straight points after getting assist on both
goals, and then adding an insurance goal with 13
seconds remaining in the game.
Wallaceburg had a 3-1 lead through two periods,
with goal scoring started by Lucais Meyskens for
the Lakers early 1-0 lead. Jeff Schroeter would
tie it up just over a minute later to get out of
the first knotted at 1-1.
In the
second, Jordan Durstin would put the Lakers back
in front 2:02 into the period, followed by Kyle
Jacobson to give the Lakers a 3-1 lead.
Andrew
Sokol would cut the lead in half 54 seconds into
the third period, scoring what would be the
first of four goals in the period as the Flags
pick up their 17th victory of the season.
Mooretown moves back into first place in the
North Division with 36 points, one point up on
Blenheim. The Flags have been on the road since
December 18th and will take on Blenheim on
January 8th and Essex on January 10th before
returning home against Blenheim on January 14th.
