Alvinston, ON – Dan Warner had a seven point
night, including four goals and three assists
for the Alvinston Flyers as they defeat the
Mooretown Flags 9-7 Friday night in Great Lakes
Junior C hockey.
Things
started in Mooretown's favour in the first
period as the Flags had a 3-1 lead through the
first twenty minutes. Warner scored the games
first goal, but Mooretown would respond with
three. Andrew Sokol would tie the game at 1-1,
followed by Aaron Schieman a minute and a half
later to give Mooretown their first lead. Jake
Currie would score on the power play before the
end of the period.
Despite being down by two goals, it would only
take the Flyers just under three minutes to
retake the lead. Tanner Thomson scored on the
power play 37 seconds into the period, while Joe
Archer would add a second goal 11 seconds later.
Two minutes following that, Brandon Burr would
score the Flyers third straight goal to take a
4-3 lead.
Mooretown would re-tie the game as McGregor
Haddon would score, but Warner would add his
second goal of the game to give the Flyers the
lead. Caden Fleming would tie it once again, but
Warner would add his second goal in three
minutes, and third of the game to put Alvinston
back in front. The Flags would still find the
back of the net once more as Aaron Schieman
would score short handed, tying the game at 6-6.
In the
third, Alvinston would again find the back of
the net quickly and often, as Warner would pick
up his 4th goal of the night to put the Flyers
back in front. 30 seconds later Joe Archer would
get his second of the game, and Brett Dalton
would add a power play goal in the middle of the
period as the Flyers score another three
straight goals. Josh Teschke would add a late
period goal, but the Flyers would hold on to the
9-7 victory.
Chris
Edwards had five assists for the Flyers, while
Joe Archer had two goals and two assists for a
four point night.
Andrew
Ganter had the start for the Flags, making 23
stops of 31 shots before being pulled in the
third period. Seth Hellinga made five stops of
six shots in relief. James Morreau picked up the
victory making 41 saves on 48 shots.
Alvinston has two games left on the season on
the road, heading to Essex on Tuesday, January
31st and Wheatley on Monday, February 6th.
Mooretown is at home for the remaining three
games on their schedule, taking on Wallaceburg
on Saturday, January 28th, Kingsville on
Wednesday, February 1st and finishing off their
season on Saturday, February 4th.
