Flags need overtime to win game three after Flyer comeback

Alvinston, ON – Aaron Schieman scored in overtime to put the Alvinston Flyers one game away from being eliminated from the first round of the Great Lakes Junior C playoffs, as the Mooretown Flags won game three 4-3.

 

Mooretown held a 3-0 lead in the early moments of the third period, looking to have locked up the victory. Mike Burns scored in the first period, while Schieman got his first of the game on the power play in the second for a 2-0 lead heading into the third. Kurtis Glowa would make it 3-0 with a goal at the 1:19 mark of the third.

 

Alvinston would mount a massive comeback, scoring three goals in four minutes. Dan Warner would score on a penalty shot for the first Flyer goal. Jacob Brown would cut the lead down to one, and forty seconds later Chris Edwards would tie the game, forcing overtime.

 

In overtime, the Flags would out shoot the Flyers 13-2, and Schieman would pick up his second of the game for the 4-3 victory.

 

Andrew Ganter picked up the victory making 35 saves, while James Morreau made 52 saves in total but came up with the loss.

 

Mooretown will have two chances to finish the series at home, as game four goes Wednesday in Mooretown, and game five if needed also goes in Mooretown on Saturday.
