Alvinston, ON – Jeff Schroeter scored seven and
a half minutes into the overtime period to lead
the Mooretown Flags a 4-3 victory over the
Alvinston Flyers, taking game one of their best
of seven series.
Andrew
Sokol scored a pair of goals in the first period
to put the Flags up 2-0 in the first period,
opening the scoring just over a minute into the
first period.
Alvinston would respond in the second with the
only goal of the period as Dylan Lightfoot would
cut the lead in half with his first of the
playoffs.
The
Flyers would tie it up in the opening of the
third period as Joe Archer score two minutes in
to make it a 2-2 game. With a power play
advantage, the Flags would retake their lead as
Kurtis Glowa got the goal, but it would only
last a minute and a half as Nick Kowaluk would
tie the game up again in the middle of the
period.
The
game would need overtime where Schroeter would
put the Flags up one game to none with his
overtime winner, as Mooretown defeated Alvinston
4-3.
Andrew
Ganter made 31 saves for the victory while the
Flags out shot the Flyers 43-34.
The
series heads to Mooretown on Saturday for game
two.
