andrew Brethauer February 10th, 2011

Alvinston, ON – Jeff Schroeter scored seven and a half minutes into the overtime period to lead the Mooretown Flags a 4-3 victory over the Alvinston Flyers, taking game one of their best of seven series.

Andrew Sokol scored a pair of goals in the first period to put the Flags up 2-0 in the first period, opening the scoring just over a minute into the first period.

Alvinston would respond in the second with the only goal of the period as Dylan Lightfoot would cut the lead in half with his first of the playoffs.

The Flyers would tie it up in the opening of the third period as Joe Archer score two minutes in to make it a 2-2 game. With a power play advantage, the Flags would retake their lead as Kurtis Glowa got the goal, but it would only last a minute and a half as Nick Kowaluk would tie the game up again in the middle of the period.

The game would need overtime where Schroeter would put the Flags up one game to none with his overtime winner, as Mooretown defeated Alvinston 4-3.

Andrew Ganter made 31 saves for the victory while the Flags out shot the Flyers 43-34.

The series heads to Mooretown on Saturday for game two.
