Mooretown, ON – After a 7-2 defeat at the hands
of the Wheatley Sharks on December 5th, the
Mooretown Flags came out firing against the
Wallaceburg Lakers, scoring eight goals in a 8-2
victory in Junior C hockey.
The
Flags scored the games first three goals as Dan
Hachey got the games opening goal followed by a
rebound power play goal by Mooretown leading
scorer Jeff Schroeter for the 2-0 lead. Caden
Fleming would round out the period with the
third goal, working a give and go with Alex
Dawson to give Mooretown a 3-0 lead after the
first period of play.
Wallaceburg would start the second period
cutting the lead down to two goals as Tyler Ryan
scored 1:13 into the second. But Mooretown would
continue to respond and find the back of the net
four more times.
Calab
Harse would the Flags first goal of the period,
blasting a faceoff win by Josh Teschke over the
shoulder of Joel Terhaerdt to give the Flags
their three goal lead.
Alex
Dawson would pick up a power play goal coming in
off the blue line, and Aaron Schieman would bat
in a pass in the air after Teschke caused a turn
over in the Lakers zone and forced a 2 on 1
play.
Things
continued to get worse for the Lakers as Kurtis
Glowa would pull a deke around the defence and
move in short handed, beating Terhaerdt low
between the pads, and giving Mooretown a 7-1
lead after two periods.
In the
third, Norm Ledger would get two goals for the
Lakers in under two minutes, with one coming on
the power play. But Dan Hachey would finish the
game off with his second of the game on the
power play, and give the Flags the 8-3 victory.
Andrew
Ganter picked up his 10th win of the season
making 25 saves on the night.
"We
skated well and that is the best we skated in a
long time," said Flags Head Coach Bruce
Aberhart. "Fortunately we got off to a good
start to the game. We relaxed a little bit for
five minutes at the end of the second and third,
and that is not what we need to do. We need to
play from start to finish."
It was
a big win for the Flags after getting shelled
for seven goals themselves earlier in the week.
But after a good week of practice, the Flags put
that game behind them, and move on with an eight
goal performance tonight.
"The
game in Wheatley we were not competitive at
all," said Aberhart. "We had a good practice on
Wednesday and got that cleared out of our minds
and focused on Wallaceburg tonight. The results
showed as the guys came to play tonight."
Mooretown and Wallaceburg will do it again on
Wednesday in Wallaceburg before the Flags return
home on Saturday night to take on the Alvinston
Flyers.
